Phase 1
Flooring
We propose to lay beneath a new natural stone floor a gas fired wet heating system – archaeological and site inspections confirm that this is feasible.
Heating and boiler
A new gas fired boiler will be needed within the above scheme and we are researching the possibility of Ground source heat pump (G.S.H.P.) to complement this
Seating
To facilitate differing styles of worship and enable greater spiritual use of the Church, we propose free standing seating upon the new floor, which will enable cultural events and celebration greater freedom within the building. New free standing seating will also enable many forms of secular use, seating will include a minimum of 100 bespoke spaces on stacking benches and a further 200/250 steel framed stacking chairs. (See entrance doors below)
Entrance doors
The external doors, both south and north will remain. Both doors presently have small and inconvenient lobbies. We propose to replace these lobbies with larger, well lit spaces, incorporating stacking chair storage to the west and east of the lobbies.
W.C./ Catering facilities
The present outside WCs will be replaced by a floor mounted free standing structure within the church as will catering facilities. The Church has a popular after service coffee time, and many concert organisers offer refreshments.
Quality Interior fittings
Black installed a children’s altar and a two sided seating plan in the 1950's (around the Font). It is intended to include Black’s seating within the re-ordering and, certainly retain the children’s altar in its present position.
Font
Would be relocated as part of the re-ordering: upon the new stone floor, position to be agreed, probably closer to the south door.
Meeting Space
The feasibility of a first floor (suspended within the North aisle) meeting space, with access also via the existing external staircase is being considered.
Storage for Cleaners / florists
A free standing structure, similar in design to the catering structure, will incorporate storage, a library and fold out bookshop together with reception for church welcomers.
PHASE 2
Decoration and Cleaning internal monuments
The whole of the interior will be redecorated with appropriate conservation materials, and all monuments cleaned and gold leaf relaid.
High Street Entrance
The approach from the High Street to be repaved with natural materials in an attractive and decorative style.
Stone Rood Screen
Extensive conservation scheme to be researched & costed.
PHASE 3
External repairs
Will include repairs to the tower and statuary, together with feramenta and window tracery.
Renovation of the vestries and ringing chamber will also be undertaken.
A comprehensive landscaping scheme is being prepared for the whole of the church yard to create a welcoming space for all age groups.
