The PCC agreed to recommend the removal of the pews, replace the floor and initiate an architectural competition, and have agreed to designate £15,000.00 toward the reordering project.
To date the building project/renewal committee has:-
- prepared a measured survey of the plan of the Church (AutoCAD LT);
- met with the congregation, to invite comments and suggestions for the building project;
- held a further public meeting with townsfolk and invited local organisations which further clarified needs and confirmed earlier proposals.
- extensively promoted all meetings in the local and county press.
- conferred with Diocesan archaeologists, church heating and ecclesiastical furniture specialists, and English Heritage all of whom support our proposals.
- produced a ground penetrating radar survey of the Church interior, undertaken in July 2007.
- commissioned photographic records of high quality in early 2007, these will be a continuing reference source
- with support from the Council for the Care of Churches (CCC) prepared a conservation management plan (CMP).
This document describes the church, its significant architecture and liturgical features, and its vulnerability.
The CMP is a sound reference paper for all future works associated with St. Mary’s.
- commissioned a new website, to promote the appeal together with church life within St. Mary’s Totnes
- asked three architectural practices to submit detailed drawings and illustrations as per our brief within this website.
- accepted JBKS architects as the prefferred practice, and with their drawings presented the scheme to invited town associations and groups.
- In November 2009 JBKS presented their scheme to the PCC who have agreed to proceed with JBKS as their architects.
We are researching fund raising methods and are in discussion with a fund raising consultant.
